Abstract

818,370. Electric resistances. ROSENTHALISOLATOREN G.m.b.H. Feb. 14, 1958 [Feb. 15, 1957], No. 4909/58. Class 37. A method of producing glazed electrical wire-wound resistors is characterized in that two lead-in wires, each of which is bent at right angles to form a long and short arm, are placed between two slabs pressed from glazing powder so that the arms project therefrom and the resulting unit is then fired. Resistance wire is wound on to this former, and the resistor so formed surrounded by a cover of glazing composition. In the embodiment shown two lead-in wires 2a and 2b are bent at right angles and placed in grooves, Fig. 2, formed between two glaze slabs 5a and 5b so that the long and short arms project as shown in Fig. 1. In order to prevent sagging during firing the slabs are given a non-metallic reinforcement of, for example, putty or cement which is introduced into the longitudinal groove for the lead-in wires, the groove being of larger cross-sectional area than the lead-in wires. The resistance wire 1 is wound on to the former 5a, 5b and the ends terminated on the short arms of the lead-in wires which are of rectangular cross-section. The resistor thus formed is surrounded by the covers 3 and 4 and the whole unit fired to the point of fusion. In an alternative embodiment the resistor is not surrounded by glaze covers, but is instead covered by spraying on, or dipping into, glaze.
