Abstract
818,054. Measuring temperature; temperature alarms. MADEWEL PRODUCTS Ltd. Dec. 19, 1955 [Sept. 17, 1954], No. 26946/54. Classes 40 (1) and 118 (1). In a system for indicating an abnormal tem. perature difference between two parts of a machine, e.g. bearings, thermistors B associated with the respective parts form adjacent arms of a Wheatstone bridge, the other arms being formed by a potential divider C, D, C. A moving coil indicator H in the bridge diagonal has its sensitivity adjustable by a rheostat G and if it reaches either end of its scale closes contact l<SP>2</SP> or l<SP>3</SP> to operate a corresponding relay J or K which locks up, energizes a common audible alarm L and lights a warning lamp O. P individual to the hot bearing &c. Contact E on the potential divider enables the bridge to be balanced for a normal condition in which the temperatures of the two parts are not the same. To guard against the case in which both bearings become overheated together, a differential relay R carries the thermistor current in one winding, the other being supplied by a rheostat which determines the temperature of the bearings at which the relay will operate. When relay R pulls up, it energizes S which locks and operates the common alarm and the warning lamps of .both bearings. A modification is referred to but not described in which each bearing has indicators for safe, excessive and dangerous temperatures respectively.
