Abstract
817,824. Bottling. MEYER LIQUID Ltd., and FRIENDSHIP, K. F. M. Feb. 5, 1958 [Feb. 6, 1957], No. 4048/57. Class 125(2). In a counter-pressure, revolving table bottle filling machine the liquid valve 9 is controlled by a displaceable actuating member 10, to one side of which counter-pressure air or gas is supplied, air or gas under pressure from an external source being admitted, to the other side of the actuating member 10 so that if the counter-pressure falls the liquid valve 9 is closed. Counter pressure gas is supplied from a source 25 through a piston valve 29, operates by a cam ring 33 abutted by a roller 32 carried by the piston 29, and a non-return valve 28 to a chamber 15a in the filling head 1. The bell 8 is raised by the bottle to seal against ring 22 and to raise valve member 16 allowing entry of counter-pressure gas to the chamber 15a. The liquid pear valve 9 seals against the lower end of filling tube 7 supplied from liquid tank 2 by syphon pipe 6, and is carried by a rod 9a depending from a piston-like actuating member 10. A passage 39 puts chamber 15a in communication with space 40 above the actuating member 10. Air or gas from supply pipe 15 is fed around the lower reduced diameter portion 11 of member 10 through passage 14. On a predetermined difference in pressure between counter-pressure air or gas and air supplied to beneath member 10 the liquid valve 9 is closed. The air in supply pipe 15 preferably has a controlled bleed to atmosphere and on this difference in pressure being recognized as e.g. by the apparatus described in Specification 817,823, the bleed is stopped and the increase in pressure in pipe 15 is sufficient to raise actuating member 10. Snifting is controlled by the abutment of piston valve 42 against a cam ring 43 fixed to the supports of the revolving table. Instead of a single supply pipe 15 there may be two, operating at different pressures and connected to beneath the actuating member 10 at different times in the filling process.
