Abstract
817,473. Fluid-actuated valves. INTERNATIONAL BASIC ECONOMY CORPORATION. Nov. 14, 1955 [Nov. 9, 1955], No. 32493/55. Class 135. A plunger valve has an internal bore 19 with end chambers 47, 47a having plunger stop means 23, 24, the bore containing a horizontallydisplaceable plunger 25 with its piston ends in the respective chambers, a pair of solenoidactuated fluid control valves connected respectively to each of the chambers for supplying when de-energized and exhausting when energized, pressurized fluid for moving the plunger, the control valves co-operating when both are de-energized to maintain the plunger with one end against its stop under the action of the fluid on the other end. The plunger slides through packing rings positioned by spacers to control the supply of pressure fluid at 39, Fig. 3, to one of two cylinder feed ports 41, 42 and exhaust from the other through a port 40. With the solenoid valve C energized to lift its plunger 53a and the solenoid valve B deenergized to keep its plunger 53 in its lower position, fluid pressure from 39 passes to an annular passage 65, through the open valve 60, the open solenoid valve 69 and passages 71, 72 to the left-hand chamber 47. The right-hand chamber 47a is open to exhaust via passage 72a, open solenoid valve 75a and passage 78a. The plunger valve is therefore moved to its right end position. Alternate energization and de-energization of the solenoid valves B and C will cause reciprocation of the plunger valve. If the electric supply fails or manual control is required for a full cycle operation, the plunger valve may be moved by alternately opening valve 60 and closing valve 60a, pressure fluid then exhausting via the loose stems 59, 59a of the override valves 60, 60a. The stops act as shock pads to reduce the impact of the plunger.
