Abstract

817,345. Moulding insulation around electrical conductors. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE CHARLEROI. Aug. 1, 1956, No. 23729/56. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXXVI] A method of making an article of plastic material having a metallic insert adhering at only part of its contact surface with the plastic material comprises polishing the non-adhering surfaces of the insert and coating them with a lubricant which does not react with the plastic material, applying a layer of resin to the adhering surfaces of the insert, placing the insert in a mould, heating the mould, pouring the plastic material into the mould and heating to polymerize the plastic material. A stem T with an adhering portion AC formed by two grooves 1, 2, has its non-adhering surfaces polished longitudinally, the polished surfaces are coated with silicon grease, the stem T is then heated and the portion AC coated with a resin and the insulation M is then moulded around the stem. The material bonds to the portion AC to give a fluid-tight joint leaving the remainder of the stem free to expand in the insulation. The proportion of hardening agent in the plastic material is less at the portion AC of the stem due to the coating of resin.
