Abstract
817,281. Brushes; shoe-cleaning ; handle fixings. KING, E. Nov. 29, 1956 [Nov. 29, 1955, June 26, 1956], Nos. 34158/55 and 19760/56. Addition to 769,567. Classes 19, 61 and 138(1). An improvement or modification of the invention claimed in the parent Specification consists in providing each jaw plate with at least one slit, an portion of the plate adjacent the slit being deformed to form an aperture thereunder which is adapted to receive a securing bolt whereby the broom head is gripped in the jaws. As shown, in Fig. 3 two or more adjustable jaw plates 4 are provided on the fixed plate 3 for connecting handle 25 to a long broom head or to two brooms heads arranged end to end. Each of the curved plates 4 is provided with a slit the marginal portion of which is bent beyond' the slit to define an aperture 5, two similarly formed apertures being provided in the long plate 3. Securing bolts 6 are passed through aligned apertures in co-operating plates. A scraper 26 is provided on the plate 3. The broom handle 25 is received in a slit sleeve 21 welded to the plate 3 and provided with lugs 22, bolt 23 and wing nut 24 for securing the handle. In a modification for brushing footwear, Fig. 1, two sets of co-operating jaws are provided at an angle to one another, the fixed plate 3 of one set of jaws being secured to a bar forming a dog 9 and the fixed plate of the other set of jaws being secured to an upright 8, the extremity of which is provided with a hand grip. The extremities of the dog are turned down to form feet 10. The free end of the bar is turned down through a right angle so that the narrower side of its rectangular section is uppermost and provides a scraper 12. A fork 18 for removing gum boots is provided on the upright. In another modification the T-shaped dog is replaced by a single bar welded at one end to the upright 8. A single broom head is detachably mounted in the angle by welding a fixed plate 3 to the upright and providing a single adjust. able plate 4.
