Abstract
816,602. Valves. FAIREY AVIATION CO. Ltd. Jan. 18, 1956 [Jan. 24, 1955], No. 2109/55. Class 135. A multiple-way rotary disc valve has its ports so arranged, e.g. symmetrically, that the movable disc member does not tend to tilt. The movable member comprises two telescoped sleeves 11, 12, Fig. 1, located between two platens 7, 8 in a casing formed by a body member 1 fixed by screws to a base 4. The platens 7, 8 are spaced by a spacer member 9. The valve operating spindle 5 is mounted in bearings in the platen 7 and body 1 respectively. The sleeve member 12 is centred by an internal rib 18 of the spacer member 9. The body 1 has a highpressure inlet 29 and a low-pressure inlet 31. The spacer 9 has openings 27 and the upper surface of the platen 8 has notches 32 so that high pressure is admitted to the upper surface of the platen 8, to the lower end surface of the sleeve 11 and to the upper end surface of the sleeve 12. The platen 8 is thereby urged downwardly and the sleeves 11, 12 are urged apart. The lower surface of the sleeve 12 and the upper surface of the sleeve 11 may be relieved as at 33 to reduce the pressure of the sleeves on the platens. A circular leaf-spring 34 urges the sleeves 11, 12 apart when the pressure is cut off. The platen 7 has two pairs of diametrically opposed working ports 36, 37 of equal size. The ports 36, 37 are connected by liners to passages 39, 38 respectively in the block 4. The two passages 38 are interconnected by a transverse passage 43, Fig. 2, and the two passages 39 by a transverse passage 44. The passages 43, 44 are connected by radial passages 45, 46 to inlet and outlet pipe connections 47. The sleeve 12 has a pair of identical diametrically opposed high-pressure ports 49, Fig. 3, and two pairs of identical diametrically opposed low-pressure ports 51. In the central position of the valve each highpressure port 49 is situated between two working ports 36, 37 and the low-pressure ports 51 are just clear of the working ports 36, 37. Slight clockwise movement of the sleeves 11, 12 will bring the high-pressure ports 49 into register with the working ports 36 and one pair of lowpressure ports 51 into register with the working ports 37. Slight counter-clockwise movement of the sleeves 11, 12 brings the high-pressure ports 49 into register with the working ports 37 and the other pair of low-pressure ports 51 into register with the working ports 36. The valve laps are so arranged that the high-pressure ports 49 communicate with the working ports 36 or 37 before the low-pressure ports 51 do.
