Abstract

816,379. Television. GRIMSON COLOR Inc. Sept. 24, 1956 [Sept. 26, 1955; March 6, 1956], No. 29166/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 40 (3). In a television transmission system a field of view to be televised and which has a selected aspect ratio is optically compressed in a required direction so as to have a different aspect ratio (preferably unity) at the camera tube and at a receiver the original or a different, desired, aspect ratio is produced by variation of the amplitude of the scanning waveform appropriate to the required direction. This arrangement allows a " close-up " of a scene to be transmitted, the major interest of which extends in one of the two co-ordinate scanning directions and is of particular application in closed circuit industrial television systems for transmitting images of measuring instruments having index markings extending in either the vertical or horizontal directions in addition to conventional television applications. Details of arrangements for varying the amplitude of one of the scanning waveforms applied to the picture reproducing tube are given.
