Abstract
816,207. Electric lighting fittings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 23, 1957 [May 24, 1956], No. 16144/56. Classes 75(3) and 75(4) An electric light fitting for low pressure mercury vapour fluorescent discharge lamps includes a tray of transparent material supported by the rest of the fitting and shaped on its upper surface so as to provide a seating on which the lamp or lamps rest. In the form shown, the fitting comprises a tubular enclosure 1 of light diffusing synthetic resin, the lower part of which is flattened and provided with corrugations 2, 3 to support the lamps 4, 5. The ends of the closure are stepped downwards so that the ends of the lamps are clear of the seating. The enclosure may have a sheet metal stiffening rib 19 extending along its length which supports the operating gear 22 for the lamp. A sheet metal cover 23 carrying a tube 24 to the ends of which end caps for the enclosure, which may of the type described in Specification 816,206 are secured, is also supported from the rib 19. The cover 23 may carry leaf springs 18 bearing on the upper surfaces of the lamps to guide against accidental displacement during movement of the fitting. Specification 762,233 also is referred to.
