Abstract
815,258. Matches. LEDAAL, T. B. Sept. 18, 1956, No. 28555/56. Class 50. [Also in Group XXI] A water and moisture resistant ignition unit comprises an ignition composition enclosed in a sealed bag of thermoplastic material, e.g. polyethylene, which permits ignition of the composition by striking against a striking surface. The ignition unit may also comprise an ignitable substance and be e.g. a safety match or a match wick primer, or the unit may comprise an ignition composition, a combustion initiating composition and a combustion delaying composition to give a predetermined burning period. The thermoplastic film may have a thickness of about 50 Á and may be placed around the ignition unit by extrusion or two or more ignition units may be placed spaced apart between two thermoplastic films which are then sealed around each unit. Thus safety matches may be arranged in a chain and weakening lines may be provided in the film so that the matches can be torn off individually without damaging any of the sealed bags.
