Abstract

In a C.W. radar an error voltage proportional to the angular deviation of a target from an equi-signal axis defined by the overlapping directivity patterns of two aerial receiving elements producing signals of amplitude A. and B respectively, is obtained by applying the signals A and B to a 3 db. coupler or other hybrid junction giving two resultant signals (A-jB)/#2, (B-jA)/#2 of equal amplitude but having a phase difference dependent on said deviation, said resultant signals being applied through separate frequency changers and amplifiers to a phase discriminator giving the required error voltage. Two similar systems are provided to give azimuth and elevation error signals which are applied to control corresponding servos, the aerial system comprising two orthogonal pairs of elements associated with a common reflecting or refracting focusing element.
