Abstract

814,606. Stencil switches. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Sept. 27, 1955 [Oct. 23, 1954], No. 27421/55. Class 38 (5). Apparatus for controlling a plurality of operations, e.g. in a tyre vulcanizer or tyre building machine, comprises a number of stationary contact segments 11 having interposed rubber discs 6 mounted on a shaft 10 rotated by a solenoid 2 through a pawl-andratchet mechanism 3. Contact brushes 8 associated with the segments 11 engage the latter when permitted by slots of selected lengths in an endless insulating control band (Figs. 2, 8, not shown). The band is driven by the shaft 10 by teeth 5a rotatable with the shaft and engaging holes provided in the band edge. The solenoid 2 is intermittently energized through a selected one of a pair of contact sets, each set being operated by teeth of an associated disc driven by a respective synchronous motor. The two discs have different numbers of teeth and the two motors are each controlled by a respective contact pair 8, 11, these contact pairs being controlled by slots in the control band so arranged that one of the motors may be energized at any one time. Thus depending on which motor is energized the band is driven at a greater or lesser speed. The circuit arrangement is given in Fig. 7 (not shown).
