Abstract

814,403. Tubeless tyre and wheel rim assembly. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Feb. 1, 1957 [Feb. 22, 1956], No. 5447/56. Class 144 (2). In a tubeless tyre and wheel rim assembly wherein the tyre is sealed to the wheel rim by the inflation pressure acting on the bead toes 2, provision is made for venting to atmosphere any inflation air which may seep past the bead toe to prevent undesirable build-up of pressure under the tyre bead. Such provision may comprise a circumferential strip 7, Fig. 1, of canvas or porous material on the outer surface of the bead extending from a position on the bead foot outwardly of the toe 2, around the bead heel and radially outwardly to a position beyond the rim flange 6. Alternatively circumferentially spaced grooves 11, Fig. 4, may be provided in the bead surfaces, or in the bead seating and retaining flanges. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement wherein small circumferentially spaced radial holes 10 are provided centrally of the bead seat 9 of the rim. The rim may be flat or well-based.
