A carbon contact bow collector without a metal mount comprises a metallic element b1, b2 between carbon contact strips a. The element may comprise a spring metal strip b1 or apertured spring metal strip b2 sprung into grooves e in the carbon strips. The metal strip may be curved or the element may comprise two metallic strips interconnected centrally by means of metal springs or resilient rubber sections. The carbon contact strips may be curved and interconnected by a metallic element having toothed or slotted edges. The grooves may be metallized or a metal fabric clamped therein. The carbon contact strips are mounted in a carrier d.
