Class 103(2) A sliding door 5, Figs. 1 and 2, for vehicles is hinged at the top and is guided by rollers 2 near the upper and lower edges of the door, the rollers operating in approximately bent guide rails 1, Fig. 5, so that as the door is opened it is at the same time moved transversely of the direction of its sliding movement. As shown in Fig. 2 the door 5 at the top is connected to a part 4 of a hinge pin 7 suspended at each end by a strap 8 and rollers 9, Fig. 1, from a bar 10 fixed to the vehicle wall. In this instance the roller 2 is carried by an extension 3 integral with the part 4. At the lower end of the door the roller 2 is carried by an extension 3 connected directly to the door the extension also being connected by a link 12 with a cover plate 13 for the vehicle foot boards 14. The plate 13 is provided with rollers 15 slidable on a bar 16 so that the boards 14 are exposed when the door is open. Door handles 23 connected in known manner by means 24 with a rod 25 operate angled levers 17 which are engagable with bolts (not shown) in the closed and opened positions of the door. A locking pawl 28 is provided, effective to prevent opening of the door by use of the handles 23. A fluid pressure controlled device 21 is provided to effect the automatic opening and closing of the door. In the case of a train, the devices 21 can all be pressurized by the driver when the train stops but the doors will only open when the associated handles 23 are actuated by passengers getting into or out of the train. When the device 21 closes the door 5 the latter is automatically locked by engagement of one lever 17 with its associated bolt (not shown).
