Abstract

1401205 Door fastenings LUNKE & SOHN 5 July 1972 [6 July 1971] 31487/72 Heading E2A In a vehicle sliding door arrangement of the sort in which the door 3 is opened by first swinging out of the door frame on arm 18 pivoted at 18a, and may then be slid along by means of a rail 7 secured to the door and sliding in a guide 19 which pivoted at 19a to the arm 18, the forward end of the door is fastened by a bolt 42 engaging a keeper 43, and the rearward end of the door is fastened by a bolt 82 which is designed to snap off in a collision to prevent jamming of the door. When shut, the door is located by a hemi-spherical seating 40, 41. Bolts 42 and 82 are normally simultaneously operated by either of two door handles 9, 48. In the closed position the rail is located in its guide 19 by a hook 70 on a lever 60 which is released during the opening movement by a spring-loaded plunger 68 which engages a hole 76 of a link 24 to retain the door in its outward position, the bolt 42 engaging a keeper 77 to hold the door back. In the event of a head-on collision, the door is forced back so that an oblique corner 81 of the door rides against a roller 80 to produce a lateral force to break off the bolt 82. The bolt 42 still holds the door closed until deliberately opened.
