Abstract
In a repair patch for rubber or rubberized articles (see Group XXXIV) comprising a main body of vulcanized rubber having on its face to be adhered to the article at least two connecting layers of unvulcanized rubber which are either side by side or superimposed, one layer comprising a dry mixture of high deformation value (900-1200) to effect ultimate vulcanization of the patch, and the other layer 10 comprising a more strongly adhesive mixture of low deformation value (400-600) to effect immediate attachment of the patch, a suitable composition for the main body comprises, for every 100 parts by weight of rubber and in addition to fillers such as carbon, about 2-6 parts of a substance which contains combined sulphur, such as a tetramethyl thiuram sulphide, preferably tetraalkyl-thiuram disulphide. The adhesive layer may comprise 100 parts by weight of smoked sheet, 40 parts each of zinc oxide and active zinc oxide, 5 parts of colophony, 20-40 parts of zinc ethyl phenyl dithiocarbamate, 10-20 parts of the condensation product of acrolein with aromatic bases, and 5-8 parts of mercapto-benzothiazole. The dry layer may also contain accelerators, but only in powdered form, and may be partially vulcanized by the addition of 0.2 to 1.5 per cent by weight of rubber of a thiuram sulphide.
