Abstract
811,755. Thermo-electric devices. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Sept. 20, 1957 [Sept. 20, 1956], No. 28772/56. Class 37. A thermo-electric device comprising a plurality of P- and N-type semiconductor elements connected in series is produced by arranging bars of P and N semi-conductor material 1 parallel to each other, between two metal plates 2 and 3, bonding the plates to the bars, cutting the plates, as for example along lines AB of plate 2 and CD of plate 3, so that the P and N sections are connected in series, slicing the plates and bars transversely along lines E-F and then arranging and connecting the resulting plurality of slices to provide a series-connected arrangement with all the hot junctions along one side and the cold junctions along the other. The semi-conductor material may be bismuth telluride and the plates aluminium. The device may be used for refrigeration. Heat exchange members may be clamped on either side of the device.
