Class 65(1) In a door closer of the type having a spring chamber 2, a fluid-check chamber 3, and a radial actuating arm 34, wherein a spindle 9 connecting the arm to the fluid check extends axially through the spring chamber and cairries a rotatable sleeve 13 having two annular members 14, 15 rotat-. ably mounted thereon and anchored to opposite ends of the spring 31, the arm 34 has a hub 33 which is detaehably and non- rotatably secured to the end 10 of the spindle and has a recess 35 provided with a system of internal dog teeth 40 which mesh with the teeth of a wheel 38 detachably and non-rotatably mounted on the sleeve 13. The members 14, 15 each have two projecting stops one of which engages a corresponding stop on the sleeve and the other a stop formed on the casing of the spring chamber, the stops being so arranged that rotation of the arm 34 in either direction causes one of the members to remain fixed relative to the chamber while the other rotates with the sleeve in the spring- winding direction. The dogs project inwardly from the wall of the recess, and their thickness, and that of the wheel 38, is less than the depth of the non-circular hole 36 provided in the hub to engage the spindle, so that on loosening the securing nut 41 and raising the hub sufficiently to disengage the teeth, the arm and the spindle remain in engagement. The tension of the spring cam then be increased by rotating the arm 34, re-engaging the teeth, and returning the arm to its original position.
