Abstract

811,175. Oscillating motors; condenser arrangements. SPARCATRON Ltd. Nov. 15, 1956 [Oct. 21, 1955], No. 30138/55. Classes 35 and 38 (4). [Also in Group XXIII] An electromechanical high-speed operating mechanism for driving vibratory tools comprises two coils 1, 2 serially connected with each other and a switch 10 in the discharge circuit of a capacitance 11 which is charged by a D.C. supply, the coils being so wound and connected that they will be mutually attracted when the capacitance discharge current is passed through them on closure of the switch 10 at a predetermined time, one 2 of the coils being stationary and the other 1 being connected to a mechanical vibratory member which is moved by the attractive force set up when the current discharges. As shown, the moving coil 1 is mounted on a shaft A carrying a percussive drill 8 operative on a workpiece 9, the shaft being returned to its rest position by a coil compression spring 7. The switch 10 is a high-speed mercury jet contactor and the moving coil electrical connections are via either flexible leads D or slip rings. The amplitude and frequency of the vibrations may be adjusted by varying the electrical parameters and the discharge circuit oscillations may be in resonance with the natural frequency of the mechanical system.
