Abstract
The interior surface of a cooling zone is scrubbed free from particles which may stick to the sides during cooling by passing therethrough, together with the material to be cooled, a particulate, inert, sublimable solid such as solid carbon dioxide, solid carbon hexachlorethane, ammonia carbamate or ammonium chloride. The process is applicable to the production of metal oxides in the presence of a corrosive gas phase. The cooling process is similar to that used in the preparation of titania described in Specification 776,419 except that the inert solids in this process are sublimable. The titania is preferably manufactured according to Specification 707,560. The cooler is made of a corrosion-resistant metal such as aluminium, nickel or stainless steel. U.S.A.
