Abstract
809,726. Animal narcotizing plant. WERNBERG, N. E. May 6, 1957 [May 9, 1956], No. 14314/57. Class 81 (1). In a narcotizing plant for bacon hogs and similar livestock in which the animal is retained and later removed lying on one outwardly and downwardly swivelling side wall of the trap 5, the latter is mounted so that it may be moved down into a pit 12 containing a narcotizing gas such as carbon dioxide and be returned to its starting position, where the narcotized animal may slide from the lowered side wall on to a platform 17 located beside the trap. As shown the animal passes along an animal supply passage 1 bounded at one end by a door 3 constituting a part of a cylinder and rotatable about a vertical pivot 2 and having an operating arm 4, into a trap 5 movably suspended by means of an upper and a lower pair of rollers 6 and 7 in two double rails (of which only one 8 is shown). When the door 3 has been closed, an elevator mechanism 11 in which the trap is suspended is operated through a switch 9 being pressed by the arm 4 when the door 3 is closed so as to energize a relay system operating the elevator mechanism so that the trap is lowered to the bottom of a pit 12 filled with carbon dioxide and hoisted to its starting position after about 50 seconds. The side wall 15 is released by a pawl mechanism 13, 14 and is swung outwards and downwards with the animal lying on it into a downwardly incling position in which it is supported against a platform 17 on to which the animal slides, the side wall returning to its closed position in which it is locked by means of the pawl 14 that has been released in the meantime. A single elevator mechanism 11 may operate two traps arranged side by side and connected with the elevator mechanism in such manner that one trap is moving down while the other is moving up, each trap having its separate door 3 and separate platform.
