[Also in Group XXV] A rotary variable resistor, Fig. 1, comprising a front insulating panel 6 on which is mounted a resistance element 7 and a rotary shaft 9 carrying contact members co-operating with the resistance element is mounted within a stamped metal housing, Fig. 4, which housing is secured to the front panel 6 by means of tongues 27 and comprises a flat rear wall 25 and a side wall which is semi-cylindrical in form where it is joined to the rear wall 25 but is also provided with extensions which terminate in shoulders 28 from which depend spring fingers 30, the shoulders 28 being co-planar with the lower edge of the panel 6. An extension 32 from the rear wall 25 is provided with shoulders 34 co-planar with shoulders 28 and the lower edge of the panel 6 and a tongue 33 extending therefrom. The resistor is mounted upon a printed-circuit panel 29 which is suitably apertured, Fig. 2 (not shown), to allow the terminals 20, 22 of the resistor to pass through the panel to make contact with printed-circuit wiring on the other side and to allow the spring fingers 30 to pass through the panel so that the resistor is supported by the lower edge of the base 6 and shoulders 28. The extension 32 provides additional support. The rear wall 25 is provided with an aperture 40 which serves as an endbearing for the shaft 9. The resistor may be combined with a switch 41 having terminals 42.
