Abstract
807,382. Trimmer capacitors. BIRD & SONS Ltd., S. S. June 6, 1957 [June 20, 1956], No. 19173/56. Class 37. A capacitor of the trimmer type has an electrode printed on an insulating support with a disc of dielectric material carrying another electrode on its upper part, rotatably mounted on the support. Fig. 1 shows an insulating support 10 having two electrodes 11, 12 printed thereon with extensions 13, 14 to serve as terminals. A disc 15 of high permittivity material, Fig. 2, is maintained in close contact with the electrodes by a bolt 16 which has a screwdriver slot 23 and is retained in position by a spring 18 engaging the bolt neck 20. A metal film 17 is laid in a recess in the disc to subtend about 240 degrees and forms a coupling element between the sectors 11, 12 so that the capacity between these sectors may be varied by rotating the disc. In a further embodiment, Figs. 4, 5, 6 (not shown), the film 17 is used as one of the electrodes, connection being made via the bolt 16. The capacitor may be incorporated into a printed circuit, Fig. 7 (not shown).
