Abstract

807,350. Moulding rubber foam mattresses &c. BRAKE, L. H. May 31,1956 [June 1, 1955], No. 16917/56. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XI] A mattress, pad, pillow or cushion of foamed resilient material such as foamed rubber latex, foamed or aerated synthetic resin is moulded in one piece around an electric heating resistance wire, the ends of which extend out of the mattress. The resistance is a metal ribbon or a single strand or multi-strand spiralled or zig-zag wire 2 and is supported under slight tension above the floor of a mould box by pins 6 projecting from the floor or lid of the mould box. The pins 6 may be waisted and rounded from their waists to their projecting ends and may be carried on a removable plate 7 forming a false bottom to the mould box 3 or may be mounted on truncated pods 5 mounted on the lid of the box so as to leave corresponding indentations on the underside of the mattress on removal of the pods and pins. The wires may be enamelled or have a covering of asbestos or polyvinyl chloride and are arranged as a zig-zag, or several straight runs of wire may be connected in parallel by transverse connecting wires at their ends.
