Abstract
807,278. Vehicle power steering. TEVES, H. and TEVES, E. A. [trading as TEVES MASCHINEN UND ARMATURENFABRIK KOMM - GES. H.]. Jan. 24, 1956 [April 6, 1955], No. 2347/56. Class 79(5) [Also in Group XXIX] A rotary valve arrangement for controlling hydraulically-assisted vehicle steering-gear comprises coaxially rotatable members 3, 5 connected by shafts 2, 4 respectively with a manually operated input member and the power actuated output member, and a cam 7 carried by one of the members and engaged by means, such as plungers 19, responsive to the pressure in the hydraulic circuit to provide the operator with a reaction which is proportional to the hydraulic power developed. Passages 10 in the member 5 are permanently in communication with a pressure fluid supply 8 and with arcuate grooves 13 in the member 3 communicating with bores 18 containing the plungers 19. The member 5 is also formed with two pairs of passages 11, 12 permanently communicating through grooves (not shown) in the shaft 4 with the two ends of the hydraulic motor. When the valve members 3, 5 are relatively undisplaced the ports 11, 12 are in communication, as shown in the upper part of Fig. 4, both with the pressurized grooves 13 and with exhaust channels 14, 15 in the member 3. Upon relative rotation of the member 3, e.g. to the position indicated in the lower part of Fig. 4, the passages 11 are disconnected from the exhaust channels 14 and brought into full register with the grooves 13 whilst the passages 12 are disconnected from the grooves 13 but remain in communication with the exhaust channels 15.
