Abstract

807,123. Thermionic cathode constructions and materials. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. June 3, 1955, No. 15969/55. Class 39(1). An indirectly heated tubular cathode 1 having the heater and cathode leads 4, 5, 6 all brought out at one end, has the other end coated with a material 7 which increases the radiation of heat. The temperature difference between the two ends of the cathode is thus reduced. Suitable materials are titanium dioxide or zirconium. In a rectifier having two separate anodes, the common cathode may have a band of this material at its centre as well as at the farther end. Some comparative temperatures are given.
