Abstract
806,805. Electrolytic grinding. BISTERFELD, E., [trading as BISTERFELD & STOLTING]. June 10, 1955 [June 12, 1954], No. 16828/55. Class 41. [Also in Groups XXII and XXIII] To enable the action of a grinding tool (see Group XXIII) to be combined with electrolytic erosion of the workpiece, the abrasive elements 1 of the tool and their clamping rings 3, 4 are insulated from a rotary carrier 6 or the latter is made from non- conducting material. Current is fed to slip rings 19 connected to the clamping rings 3, 4 or contact discs dipping into mercury baths may be used. A groove 22 in a non-rotary disc 21 provides a guide for traversing the workpiece across the tool, the elements 1 projecting through channels 31 into the groove 22 which is lined with plates 23 of wear-resisting metallic or non-metallic material. An electrolyte is fed through bores 24 in the disc 21 and the bottom of the groove 22 may consist of an electrically non-conducting plate 23 having grooves to accommodate metallic interconnected ribs 27, Fig. 6, supplied with current through a lead 30. The ribs 27 serve as cathode and the workpiece as anode. The bottom of the groove 22 may, alternatively, be formed by separate layers of a conducting material interspersed with a wearresisting non-conducting material.
