Abstract
806,653. Producing metals and alloys. SHEER-KORMAN ASSOCIATES Inc. Feb. 13, 1956, No. 4486/56. Class 82(1) Also in Group XL(a)] A process of separating the elements of a refractory chemical compound consists in vaporizing the compound in a high intensity arc 14 and passing the resulting charged particles through crossed electric and magnetic fields produced by plates 30, 31 and magnet coil 25. The anode 12 of the are may embody the compound or a mixture of compounds e.g. titanium or silicon carbides, or metal oxides or silicates which have been fabricated with petroleum coke into hard conductive anodes, or the anode material may consist of scrap alloy materials. The cathode 13 consists of carbon.
