806,448. Preparation of paper pulp. ISRAEL, MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE, STATE OF, LEWIN, M., and LENGYEL, A. June 11, 1957 [Sept. 25, 1956], No. 18418/57. Class 96. Cotton stalks, tobacco stalks, &c. for the manufacture of paper, cardboard, or wallboard, &c., are debarked &c. preparatory to pulping them, by preferably comminuting them, soaking or cooking, e.g. under super-atmospheric pressure to attack the bark, wet grinding, e.g. in a disc refiner, sifting to remove the decomposed bark and possibly also part of the parenchymatic matter to leave a woody residue, which may be pulped by a chemical or semi-chemical process, e.g. using 153 gms. of NaOH and 50 gms. of Na 2 S in 5 litres of water to 1 kg. of debarked material. The preparatory cooking &c. may be effected in a stainless, rotating, electrically heated, thermostatically controlled digester, using, e.g., water or a 1 per cent solution of sodium carbonate &c.
