In an annular, air-jacketed type of combustion apparatus for a gas turbine engine or a jet propulsion engine comprising an annular flame tube e disposed within an annular air casing, an annular assembly of air passages a, b is provided, the passages leading alternately to the outer and inner air spaces c and d radially outside and within the flame tube respectively. Passages f are provided leading to the interior of the flame tube either from the passages a leading to the outer air space c or, as shown, from the passages b leading to the inner air space d.
