[Also in Group IX] Fibre is fed at a constant rate to textile machinery by feeding it pneumatically to a constant-rate take-off mechanism initially at a rate of input in excess of the rate of take-off, accumulating surplus input of the fibre not accepted by the take-off mechanism, continuously removing fibre from the accumulating surplus and actuating input-reducing means for the pneumatic feeder to limit the surplus accumulation. As shown, Fig. 3, material from a preceding machine is delivered in an air suspension through a duct 18 to a suction cage 11 which deposits it in a feed-box 20b. Flaps 11a on cage 11 seal the cage against the casing 14 and also wipe surplus material from the top of the feed box which is thus kept full above delivery rollers 21, 22. Surplus material wiped by flaps 11a falls into a compartment 20a from which it is continuously returned by drum 19 to the part 18a of the main inlet duct 18. When an excessive amount of surplus material has accumulated in compartment 20a a weighted flap 27 is pressed back to actuate an electric switch to slow down or stop the preceding machine. The partition 20 is adjustable along a notched support bracket 26 and rollers 21, 22 are adjustable as indicated by arrows. In a modification, Fig. 4, the switch is actuated by the weight of material in compartment 20a depressing a hinged bottom plate 30.
