805,718. Cleaning and husking grain and seeds. SIMON, Ltd., H. Sept. 4, 1957 [Oct. 4, 1956], No. 30254/56. Class 58. A machine for scouring, beating, crushing, or polishing cereal grains, seeds, &c. and adapted to form an integral part of a pneumatic elevator comprises a cylindrical stator 1 with conical end extensions 2 and 3 which converge to form continuations of a substantially vertical elevating pipe 4, and a coaxial rotor 5 with lower conical extension 13, mounted within the stator and driven through a rotatable shaft 10 by an electric motor 6 which is enclosed in a stationary conical fairing 16. In operation, the cereal grains, &c., are carried upwardly by air draught into the annular air channel between the rotor 5 and the inside scouring or other treatment surface 7 of the stator which channel has a cross-sectional area so proportioned with regard to that of the pipe 4 that the terminal velocity of the entrained cereal grains, &c., is approached so that they are moved in an upward path over the surface 7 by longitudinal, radial or helical beaters, brushes or impellers 8 carried by the rotor.
