Abstract
805,408. Steam superheaters; water-tube boilers. GOTAVERKEN A. B. Dec. 10, 1956 [March 6, 1956], No. 37711/56. Classes 123(2) and 123(3) A tubulous heat exchanger 7 provided with an oil fuel burner 8 may be used for superheating steam supplied from a primary steam generator 3 or, when the latter is inoperative, may be used for directly generating steam and superheating that steam. When the primary generator is in use it supplies steam to a header 12 of the heat exchanger through a pipe, controlled by a valve 6, leading from the steam and water drum 5 of the primary generator which, in the form shown, is heated by the coolant of a nuclear reactor 1. From the header 12 the steam passes through a tube bank 15 to an intermediate header 13, and then through a second tube bank 17 to an upper header 14 which supplies steam through a pipe 9 to a turbine 10 exhausting into a condenser 11. The condensate is returned as feed water by means of a pump 21 to the primary generator. When the primary generator is inoperative and the heat exchanger is directly generating steam the condensate is returned by way of a pipe 23 to the header 12, the pipes 22, 23 being respectively provided with control valves 24, 25. A downcomer pipe 19, controlled by a valve 18, connects the intermediate header 13 and the lower header 12 and the valves 18 and 25 are open while the valves 6 and 24 are closed. The intermediate header is provided with a water gauge 20 as well as with other devices including automatic feed regulators. The heat exchanger 7 may be of the " once-through" type in which case the headers 12, 14 are dispensed with, or the tube banks 15 and 17 may be directly connected, the header 13 being raised and substituted for the header 14. There may be a plurality of circulating pipes instead of only the one pipe 19, and pumps connected thereto may be used to circulate the water through the tube bank 15. The primary steam generator may be of any suitable type.
