Abstract

A surgical dressing has incorporated in it a textile yarn having wound around it a thin wire or ribbon formed wholly or mainly of a noble metal. An X-ray opaque tell-tale in a gauze swab or pad comprises a fine gold wire or ribbon helically wound on cotton yarn which may be woven into gauze during manufacture or sewn or cemented to finished gauze. The gold may be combined with silver or platinum or replaced by a silver alloy, e.g. 92 per cent silver, 8 per cent copper. Specifications 736,685 and 790,417, [Group IV (a)], are referred to.
