805,024. Trailer vehicle, body details. FRUEHAUF TRAILER CO. Jan. 25, 1957, No. 2858/57. Class 108(1) A trailer body has a side wall structure comprising interconnected pre - formed panels of a reinforced plastic, each panel being substantially rectangular and including one end portion 18, which is outwardly off-set a distance approximately equal to the thickness of the panel, said off-set portion 20, receiving and securing one end 24 of an adjacent section to provide a side wall having a substantially smooth and flat inner face; vertical hollow reinforcing posts 26 to strengthen and impart rigidity to the joints between the pre-formed panels; and main longitudinal load carrying members 54, 56 above and below and in abutting relationship to said side panels and said posts whereby to spread the load of the body uniformly among said panels and said posts, at least one of said load carrying members being in the form of a channel receiving a marginal portion of said wall structure, with one flange 72 of said channel overlapping and closely fitting the received portions of said panels and the other flange 74 of said channel overlapping and closely fitting the received portions of said posts. The roof comprises a number of pre-formed panels, one or more being translucent if required, the transverse edges of the panels overlap, a sealing strip being fitted between them. A transverse plate 64 is positioned below the joint and a further transverse plate 66 having a downturned edge 68 covers the overlap, the plates and panels being secured by rivets 70. The ends of the roof panels together with a sealing strip 76 are fastened over the inwardly turned flange extension 74 of member 56, the joints being covered by longitudinal metal plate 78, this plate having a downturned portion 80 enclosing the ends of the roof sections, rivets 82 form the fastening means for the cover plate and the roof panels. In an alternative arrangement, the vertical reinforcing post is integral with the off-set ends of the side panels, overlapping, and being secured to, the adjacent panel.
