Class 59 In a roller and ring mill of the kind having a horizontal rotatable grinding ring 14 having in its upper face a grinding track 18 against which the rollers 20 are resiliently pressed so that they planetate about the axis of the ring, the rollers have shafts 22 which are guided at their ends in slots 24, 26 in two concentric rings 28, 30 which rotate with the rollers around the axis of the grinding ring 14 so that the rollers can rise from, or fall towards, the grinding ring, the guide rings 28, 30 are supported by the rollers, and the contacting surfaces of the rollers and track are complementarily shaped so that the rollers and guide rings form a selfcentring assembly. The rollers are pressed against the grinding track by springs 44, the compression of which is adjustable. Each roller shaft carries outer and inner bearing blocks 56, 66 which are disposed in the slots 24, 26 which are farmed by plates 62, 68, Fig. 2, projecting from the guide rings 28, 30 respectively, the guide rings being connected by spokes 31. Preferably, the following relationships exist between the mean diameter Dt, Fig. 4, of the grinding track, the depth T of the grinding track, the diameter of curvature Ds of the grinding track, the overall diameter Dr of a roller, and the diameter of curvature d of a roller.-(a) d/Dr = 0.25 to 0.55 (b) Ds/d < 1.10 (c) T/Dr = 0.10 to 0.40 and (d) Dt/Dr = 1.30 to 2.00.
