Abstract

<PICT:0803773/IV (a)/1> A melt-spinning head comprises (1) a nozzle holder; (2) a nozzle fitted within the nozzle holder; (3) a single straining unit which occupies a substantial proportion of the space between the nozzle and a supply pipe and which comprises a frame in which a strainer is mounted; and (4) a spring ring securing the frame in position within the nozzle holder, the spinning head containing no sand filter. As shown, the nozzle 2 is contained in holder 1 and the straining unit comprises a plurality of finemesh screens 3 mounted in a frame 4 secured by spring ring 5. The nozzle holder may be attached to a supply pipe by a bayonet connection.
