Abstract

803,538. Folding push chairs. CARMICHAEL, R. W. Oct. 16. 1956 [Oct. 21, 1955, No. 31439/56. Class 108(1) A push chair which may be collapsed and carried with the baby seated therein, comprises a rigid triangulated framework of links 11. 12 and 13 on each side supporting a seat 10, a fabric covering (not shown) extending over the seat and up to the cross member 15 to provide a seat back, and undercarriage linkworks 32, 36 and 38 connected by links 41 to the ends of the handle 23, which handle is pivoted at points 26 to the links 13 so that when locking rings 42 are lifted the handle may be pushed downwardly to collapse the chair with the baby still seated within the rigid frameworks 11, 12, 13, the wheels being pivoted backwardly to lie behind the seat back and automatically locked in this position by a link 43 having limited pivotal movement engaging the rear wheel axle. In the collapsed position the chair may be carried from a shoulder strap or be supported on hooks hung from a motor vehicle seat, Fig. 9 (not shown). In the carrying position fabric wheel covers attached to the struts 13 may be stretched over the wheels to protect the clothes of the person carrying the chair.
