Abstract
2 - Ethyl - 2 - sec. - butyl - 1:3 - propanediol dicarbamate is prepared by ester interchange between 2 - ethyl - 2 - sec. - butyl - 1:3 - propanediol and a carbamate of an alcohol, said alcohol containing not more than 4 carbon atoms. In an example alcohol is distilled as an azeotrope with toluene from a mixture of the diol and ethyl urethane in toluene containing a catalytic amount of aluminium isopropylate and the residue is worked up to give the required dicarbamate. Specification 798,848 is referred to.
