Abstract
1 - Phenyl - 2 - amino - 1 : 3 - propanediol is obtained by reducing an ester of phenylserine with lithium aluminium hydride in the presence of an organic solvent, the process being characterized in that the starting material is the cyclohexyl ester or in that a cyclic ether, e.g. tetrahydrofuran, is used as organic solvent. The ethyl ester may also be used as starting material in the latter case. In an example d-threo-1-phenyl - 2 - amino - 1,3 - propanediol is obtained from l-phenylserine-cyclohexyl ester. Specification 729,550 is referred to.
