Abstract
803,024. Handle bars. HADEN BROS., Ltd. Dec. 6, 1956 [Jan. 20, 1956], No. 1930/56. Class 136(3) [Also in Group XXV] A band clip 1 comprises a split band 2 having a pair of outwardly projecting D- shaped hollow ears 5 and 5a which are apertured at 12 to receive a clamping nut and bolt 8, 7 and have a U-shaped wall with the inside of the ears 5 and 5a opening into the interior of the band 2; D- shaped liners 9, Fig. 5, fit into the ears 5 and 5a to prevent them collapsing when the band is tightened. The liner 9, formed from a sheet metal blank, consists of a U-shaped wall 9a and a cross-piece 10, the liner being inverted in the ear 5 with the bottom of the liner uppermost and formed with a bolt hole 11 opposite to hole 12. The cross-piece 10 rigidly connects the walls of the ear 5 and is curved to follow the curvature of the inner face of the band 2, any gaps between the cross-piece 10 and band 2 may be filled with welding metal and the liner may be fixed to the ear by welding, brazing, soldering, &c. In Fig. 8 (not shown), the liner is fitted with its bolt hole and the bolt hole in the ear coinciding, i.e.' the liner is not inverted. The liner of Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown) is a flat D-shaped plate with a plate-like extension similar to the cross-piece 10. The clip is shown in Fig. 1 in use for attaching a bicycle handlebar to the bracket 3 but this use is not exclusive.
