Abstract
802,878. Wheel rims. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. Jan. 15, 1957 [May 4, 1956], No. 1477/57. Class 144 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] In a demountable wheel rim 10 for tubeless tyres which has a radially inwardly projecting rib 19 whereby the rim is clamped, as by lugs 17, to a wheel body 16, an inflation valve stem 23 has its axially inner end 24 clamped, as by a nut 25, in a hole 21 in the rim base with a flange 26 on said inner end in sealing engagement with the radially inner surface 27 of the rim base 13, the valve having an intermediate portion 29 extending axially outwardly parallel with the rim base 13 and terminating in an axially outer portion 30 which entends generally radially inwardly parallel with the rib 19. As shown, the flange 26 of the valve stem is sealed to the rim base by a gasket 28 and the intermediate portion 29 is spaced from the rim base by not more than <SP>1</SP>/ 16 of an inch. The outer end 30 of the valve stem extends between two lugs 39, 40 which project inwardly from the rib and are themselves received in a slot 36 in the wheel body for driving engagement between the rim and wheel body. The lugs 39, 40 prevent rotation of the valve stem in the hole 21. A conventional valve core 35 is housed in a tube 34 which detachably screws into the end 30 of the valve stem for ease of replacement in the event of damage to the tube 34.
