Abstract

A non-porous ceramic is obtained by mixing 60-95 per cent of alumina with 5-40 per cent of a pre-melted alkali-metal-free glass, shaping, heating to 1400 DEG -1625 DEG C. to fuse the glass and bond the alumina. A preferred glass contains, in percentages, silica 60; alumina 14; calcia 16, and baria 10.
