Abstract

801,250. Automatic fire alarms. BAER, A. R. June 24,1957, No. 19809/57. Class 118 (1), An automatic fire alarm comprises a container 10 for compressed gas, an inner cover 11 provided with a part annular depression 20 and having a hole 15 communicating with the inside of the container, and an outer cover 12 provided with whistle slots 14 and an annular raised portion 21. The outer cover 12 is fastened down over and co-operates with the inner cover 11 to define a sound chamber formed by the depression 20 and the raised part 21, and the hole 15 is normally stopped by a metal filling 17 which fuses at alarm temperature. In operation the melting of the metal at alarm temperature releases the gas which is directed by raised parts 16 on the cover 11 and by the contour of the cover 12 to the whistles 14. A pea 22 or the like is provided. In further embodiments only one whistle is provided, the sound chamber may be of cylindrical or other shape, and a reflector plate is provided to co-operate with the whistle.
