Abstract

801,249. Filters for liquids. AMERICAN VISCOSE CORPORATION. April 15, 1957, No. 12202/57. Class 46. A filter assembly comprises a fluid-tight housing 1 having supply and discharge conduits 4, 6 and enclosing a core 3 having an axial bore 8 in communication with one of the conduits, radial passageways 13 between the bore and the surface of the core which is surrounded by filtering cloth, &c., 10, and a sleeve 14 occupying the space between the core and the housing from the base of the core to the outer ends of the passageway 13 to eliminate pockets where the liquid being treated could congeal. The outer surface of the core may be grooved, the grooves 9 being of different lengths and the passageways terminate at an end of each groove, the sleeve having a stepped edge to match the different groove-lengths. As shown the passageways 13 are at right angles to the bore 8 but they may be inclined thereto and each groove may be replaced by two or more short ones. Clamps 11 secure the filter material 10 in grooves 12 in the core.
