Abstract

<PICT:0801221/III/1> A dispenser for liquid adhesives comprises a barrel 1, a dispensing tip 2 on the barrel having a dispensing hole or slot, and a pin 7, which is adapted to close said hole or slot, formed integrally with a resilient spider 5 of ring or tubular form, so that by pressing on the outer end of the pin the hole or slot is opened by inward movement of the pin, which returns to effect closure on release of the pressure. The spider and pin may be carried by the tip 2, by the barrel, or by a member to which both the tip and barrel may be attached, and the barrel may be in the form of a disposable refill, serve merely as a shroud for such a refill, or may form the adhesive container, either being provided with a refilling plug at the end remote from the tip, in which case the barrel, spider and pin may be formed integrally, or being detachable from the spider and pin unit. As shown, the barrel is a disposable refill having a weakened end wall which is broken off by the wedge-shaped end 9 of the spider tube 5 when the barrel is secured to it. In a modification employing a separate refill, a rearward extension of the pin protrudes into the refill when this is screwed on to the spider and pin unit. An annular recess may be formed in the tip around the pin to assist in forming a seal of dried adhesive. The dispenser may be made of plastic. The Provisional Specification states also that the spider may be hinged to or detachable from the tubular member that carries it and that alternatively the pin may be in two parts connected by a flexible oval or other ring, or may have a corrugated or zig-zag resilient portion.
