Abstract
801,177. Radio-frequency couplings. CRAWFORD, T. J. April 19, 1955 [April 20, 1954], No. 11257/55. Class 40 (7). In an induction heating apparatus the work inductor 3 is fed with high-frequency energy by means of a transformer 12 the primary of which forms part of the oscillator tuned circuit and may be fed from the oscillator across only a portion of whole inductance bridged by the tuned circuit capacitance. The primary of the transformer may thus act as an auto-transformer in order to match the oscillator to the tuned circuit and load. The oscillator valve 5, in one embodiment, is coupled over D.C. blocking capacitor 16 to the upper end of the primary winding of the transformer or to tappings 17 or 18 thereon. A bank of capacitors 13 forming the other part of the tank circuit are coupled across the whole winding. Feedback to the grid of the oscillator valve is provided by small transformer 14. The oscillator and coupling arrangement is described in connection with apparatus for producing welded tubing of the kind described in Specification 732,780, [Group XXII]. An air-cored watercooled transformer of suitable type is described with reference to Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown).
