Abstract

800,900. Drilling-machine details. MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES, CO. Nov. 16, 1956 [Dec. 13, 1955], No. 35090/56. Class 83 (3). In a dust-collector for rock-drills, a receiver 1, connected to a sealing-gasket 2 engageable with a mine-roof 3 around a drill 6, is connected at its base to a tube 7. The tube 7, passing through a central opening in the receiver, has, rotatably mounted on its upper end, a ring 10 supporting a dust-deflecting cap 8 clamped by a bond 9. The receiver is supported by a bearing 13, mounted on the flange of a sleeve 12, the lower end of which has two parallel and two downwardly and inwardly-inclined sides. Shoes 14, shaped internally to fit the drill 6, engage the inclined sides, the shoes being urged, collet fashion, by a spring 16 connected to flanges 17, 18 on the sleeve and shoes respectively. In operation, the shoes grip the drill-shank 6 sufficiently to support the receiver but permit linear movement of the drill. In a modification, a central tube 21, Fig. 4, secured to a sleeve 22 containing shoes 23 gripping the drill 24, passes through a bearing 26 and is rotatably supported by bearings 32 mounted in a tube 31 welded to the receiver-base. A sealing-cap 33, having a skirt 35 overlapping tube 31 is clamped on the tube 21 by a ring 34 and grips the drill-steel. In operation, the cap, inner-tube and sleeve rotate with the drill.
