Abstract
To prevent bandages from sticking, they are made from threads that shrink on wetting and others that do not shrink or that shrink a smaller amount, whereby the threads execute small local contrary movements which interrupt the sticking process and create fresh capillary passages to absorb secretions. The weave is such (see Group IX) that the shrinking threads are spaced from the surface applied to the wound. Raw cotton is normally used, but scoured cotton is used when large quantities of secretion have to be absorbed; it is stated that a single layer of the fabric is sufficient.
